DriveVision Teen is a novice driver monitoring and feedback system that is being developed to help reduce the tragically high losses experienced by teen drivers, their families, and their communities. Transecurity is developing a compact, easy to install, and inexpensive version of its on-board safety system that can capture information about the teen drivers behavior. The DriveVision Teen system includes a video view of the forward roadway and a view of the driver's face and vehicle cab. The system includes GPS, accelerometers, yaw rate sensor, a passive alcohol sensor and also taps into the vehicle's OBDII data bus connector to gather additional information about vehicle and driver performance. DriveVision Teen provides immediate feedback in the vehicle to a teen driver when the system detects that they're engaging in unsafe behavior. In addition, a data and video record of these events are captured and transferred to an offline data storage system. Weekly or monthly report cards of performance are automatically sent to parents outlining their teen driver's performance including video examples of both good and bad driver behavior. In addition, a detailed driver coaching report is generated to provide guidance for the parent about effective methods of coaching their teen driver. The system provides a consistent, objective way for parents and teens to communicate effectively about driving safety issues.
